Review: Pullip Sailor Neptune

Who says that Luna cushions never come in handy?! Sailor Neptune is a 2015 release!
Who says that Luna cushions never come in handy?! Sailor Neptune is a 2015 release!

Sailor Neptune or Michiru Kaiou in her civilian form is my favorite character in the Sailor Moon universe because she is the embodiment of intellect and elegance. She is a quite serious character and tragic heroine. She is basically the total opposite of Usagi Tsukino, who is my other number one girl (it’s a tie, you see), who is clumsy and has a very welcoming personality. Pullip Princess Serenity is on her way (she is supposed to arrive tomorrow), but today it is Pullip Sailor Neptune’s turn. I have had her for several months now and it has not always been easy. In general you always have to pay more for collaboration and Creator’s Label dolls because there are more people involved. What this means at the same time for the collector, is that you kind of expect a premium product and this is, where some people got put off from the Sailor Moon releases. The most criticism was earned for sailor suits that are made out of pleather and also the dolls’ face-up are pretty minimal, which did not let collectors justify the price tag. My decision was to take it my time with the Sailor Moon series and start with Sailor Neptune to build my own opinion. She is beautiful and I love having her in my collection! Pullip Alice du Jardin Mint is a release from 2012 and one of the most popular!

The mint version of Pullip Alice du Jardin (the pink Alice du Jardin is the original) is a 2012 release and extremely popular among collectors, which is probably the reason why Groove Inc. is still producing both versions as of this writing. She was my first Pullip and holds a very special place in my heart. I even cried, when she arrived because I was so happy to finally own a Pullip! Review: Pullip Chloi Doll Carnival 2010

Pullip Chloi is just like her twin Clara a Doll Carnival 2010 limited release. There are 600 Chlois worldwide!
Pullip Chloi is, like her twin Clara, a Doll Carnival 2010 limited release. There are only 600 of her!

Last week I wrote about Groove’s 2010 limited Pullip release Clara and today it is time for her twin sister Chloi. Like Clara, Chloi also had the limited number of 600 pieces and was a special Doll Carnival Pullip. I bought both twins from Mandarake Japan, where rare dolls tend to show up once in a while. Review: Pullip Clara Doll Carnival 2010

Pullip Clara is a limited Pullip that was released in 2010. Only 600 Pullip Clara were made!

Pullip Clara is a release from 2010 and a very limited at that. She was especially made for the Doll Carnival as part of a duo with Pullip Chloi, her twin sister. Only 600 dolls of Clara and Chloi were sold each. I was able to acquire the lovely sisters through Mandarake and will post a review on Pullip Chloi next week. Today let’s focus on the pink twin! Review: Pullip Nana-chan

Pullip Nana-chan was released in 2014. Like all kitties she loves shopping bags!
Pullip Nana-chan was released in 2014. Like all kitties she loves shopping bags!

Some Pullip just steal your heart right away. Pullip Nana-chan is one of my biggest favorites that, in my opinion, belongs into every Pullip or even doll collection. I might also have to mention that cats are my favorite animals and this just added another reason to my long list, why Pullip Nana-chan is simply amazing. Nana, which is number seven in Japanese, is a collaboration doll with singer Mi-chan and Silver Butterfly. Nana-chan is designed with Mi-chan’s actual cat Nana-chan in mind. Mi-chan also got his own Taeyang doll. Silver Butterfly designed the clothes. She was released in 2014. Continue reading Review: Pullip Nana-chan

Review: Pullip Creator’s Label Galene

Pullip Creator's Label Galene
Pullip Creator’s Label Galene is a creation from mitsubachi@BabyBee and Silver Butterfly.

Pullip Galene is a Creator’s Label release from 2012. Mitsubachi@BabyBee created her face-up and Silver Butterfly her stock-outfit. The meaning behing her name is galena/blue lead, which explains the soft colors of Galene’s overall look. Out of all the Pullip that were sold-out, when I finally started collecting, Galene initially wandered on top of my list of grails. I missed out on her at least a few times, when I finally saw that the price of a listing on ebay had been significantly reduced. And this is how a brand-new Pullip Galene found her way into my collection. Continue reading Review: Pullip Creator’s Label Galene

Review: Pullip Classical Alice

Pullip Classical Alice
Pullip Classical Alice at her recent tea party! Would you like to join her?

What Pullip was the first you ever set eyes on? Mine was Classical Alice. I remember her from a tiny stock-photo on Amazon.co.jp, popping up in my recommendations. I did not know what a Pullip was back then, but I thought that she was the most incredibly beautiful doll I ever saw. (Imagine me, when I found out that Pullips can move their eyes side to side. What a revelation of endless possibilities!) It was during a time, when I had just stopped collecting Monster High dolls because the new releases weren’t my cup of tea anymore and there was also self-induced pressure to grow up. (Because all of those collectibles out there are for children-pure logic!) So I kept Classical Alice on my wishlist for several years and silently watched Groove release the Sailor Moon Series, while denying myself the fact how desperately I wanted to get into Pullip-collecting. Review: Pullip Creator’s Label My Melody HEN-NAKO Ver.

Pullip Creator's Label My Melody HEN-NAKO
Pullip Creator’s Label My Melody HEN-NAKO

Pullip My Melody HEN-NAKO was the first Pullip release in 2016. She came out in January as a new Creator’s Label doll and a collaboration with Sanrio, who is mostly known for characters like Hello Kitty, My Melody, Cinnamoroll, etc. In 2007 there even was a Pullip Hello Kitty and in 2008 the original Pullip My Melody released, but this time Groove asked well-known creator mitsubachi@BabyBee (who also worked on Pullips Seila, Galene, Kรผhn, Laura and Alura) to reinterpret My Melody’s character in her own way in 2016. This My Melody also wears the name HEN-NAKO, which is Japanese for “strange child”. HEN-NAKO is a character that mitsubachi@BabyBee created herself and in an awesome interview with The Dolly Insider, she mentions that she was inspired by HEN-NAKO’s and My Melody’s similarities to design My Melody HEN-NAKO Ver., who despite her quite unusual features has gotten hard to find as of the writing of this post. Review: Pullip Marie by Angelic Pretty

Pullip Marie by Angelic Pretty
Pullip Marie is a collaboration with Japanese label Angelic Pretty!

Pullip Marie is a collaboration doll with Japanese lolita fashion brand Angelic Pretty to celebrate the label’s 15th anniversary. For Pullip it is the third release with Angelic Pretty, Pullip Sfoglia being the first in 2009 and Pullip Prupate the second in 2011. Marie was released in Japan in September 2016 and is the princess in my collection. Continue reading Review: Pullip Marie by Angelic Pretty

Review: Pullip Cheshire Cat in Steampunk World

Pullip Cheshire Cat in Steampunk World
Pullip Cheshire Cat in Steampunk World

Pullip Cheshire Cat in Steampunk World wrote Pullip-history. She was the first Pullip with a new eye-mechanism, which allows you to show off her eyeliner, while her eyes are still open. Cheshire Cat was released in Japan in October 2016 and is the last doll in the Alice in Steampunk World series. She was very sought after and really popular from the moment her promo-pictures turned up on the internet, but I have to admit that I did not think that she was for me. And even just now, when I look at her promo-pictures for reference, I get the same feeling of indifference that I had then. Luckily I was able to travel to Japan in December, where I did not only change my mind about Pullip Lupinus, but fell in love with Cheshire Cat and bought her on the first day of my trip. She is a really sweet kitty and is now best friends with my Nana-chan.

Cheshire Cat and Nana-chan
Here is the proof!
